According to data from the statistical agency Sigmaintell Consulting, BOE has surpassed LG Display to become the world's largest supplier of LCD TVs and display panels.
The statistical report shows that in 2021, BOE will have the highest LCD panel shipments, reaching 37.3 million units, followed by LG Display with 34.5 million units. In addition, BOE shipped 54.3 million TV panels in 2018, compared with 48.6 million for LG Display.
However, although BOE ranks first in panel shipments, it can only rank third in terms of shipment area. LG Display occupies the first place with a display panel shipment area of 30 million square meters, and Samsung With a display area of 26.2 million square meters, it overwhelms BOE.
From the perspective of the overall market, LCD panel shipments have been declining for six consecutive years, and shipments have decreased from 178 million in 2012 to 137 million in 2017. However, in 2018, the demand for LCD panels improved, and the shipments increased again. It rebounded to 151 million pieces, an annual increase of 10 percent .
Industry insiders believe that the main reasons for the contrarian growth of the LCD panel market in 2018 are: first, the release of supply-side production capacity, the commissioning of several high-generation production lines, and the positive shipments of panel factories; second, the recovery of overseas market demand, especially the economic recovery in North America. , driving the tide of LCD screen replacements and increasing new demand; third, some brand operators stock up in advance, including international brands such as Dell, HP, and Lenovo, which have increased overseas stock in advance.
In addition, from a technical point of view, the three major technology camps of LCD panels, including borderless, curved and e-sports, continue to expand, stimulating upgrades and bringing consumer demand; in addition, panel prices continue to fall, which also accelerates LCD The trend of large-scale display.
In 2018, BOE's world's first 10.5-generation TFT-LCD production line was mass-produced, and TV panel production capacity increased by more than 40 percent year-on-year. At the same time, BOE's product structure has been continuously optimized, and large sizes such as 55-inch, 65-inch and 75-inch have increased significantly. In particular, the market share of 75-inch TV displays has jumped to the first place in the world. In addition, BOE's many high-generation production lines are full of production and sales, and the proportion of large-size and ultra-high-definition display shipments continues to increase. 65-inch/75-inch displays have been supplied to domestic and foreign brand customers, and the domestic market accounted for Over 60 percent , and cooperate with a number of color TV manufacturers in the 8K field.
In addition to LCD panels, BOE is also making efforts in the field of OLED panels. It is reported that BOE has started the construction of the third 6G flexible OLED panel production line in Chongqing, with a monthly production capacity of 48,000 pieces. BOE plans to invest 46.5 billion yuan in a new production line aimed at producing flexible OLED panels for mobile phone, car and laptop applications.
In May 2017, BOE launched the official operation of the first 6G flexible OLED production line in Chengdu, and is currently building the second 6G OLED production line in Mianyang, which is scheduled to be mass-produced in 2019.
After completing its second OLED product line, BOE is expected to continue to expand its market share in the field and compete with companies including Samsung Display, LG Display, Sharp and Japan Display (JDI).
With the continuous maturity of technology, OLED has gradually become the mainstream high-end route of consumer electronic products. According to IHS Markit data, global shipments of flexible OLED panels reached 157.6 million units in 2018, a threefold increase from 2015. During this period, the compound annual growth rate reached 50 percent .
